At Our Little Green Life, we tailor our growing media based on each plant’s stage and needs.
For propagation, we use a simple mix of Moss and Perlite to encourage early root development while maintaining proper airflow and moisture balance. For certain plants like Monstera and Philodendron, which naturally produce strong Aerial roots, sometimes we will start propagation in water. This allows the Aerial roots to transition and develop into soil-ready roots. Once a healthy root system has formed and new growth roots are established, the plant is then ready to be moved into its growing medium.
For established, rooted plants, we use a chunky, airy blend of Lechuza Pon and WillGro Odontoglossum Media. The exact proportions vary depending on the plant species and growing environment, there is no fixed ratio! This flexible approach allows us to support healthy root systems while minimizing the risk of overwatering. This well-aerated mix promotes strong, consistent root growth and creates a stable environment for long-term plant health.
Lechuza Pon : A premium soilless substrate made from zeolite, washed pumice, lava rock, and controlled-release fertilizer. It offers an excellent air-to-water balance (approximately 55% air / 45% water), supports steady root development, reduces the risk of root-related diseases, and resists compaction over time. Lechuza Pon can also be reused for years and helps buffer excess fertilizer, releasing nutrients gradually as plants need them.
WillGro Odontoglossum Media : A high-quality orchid medium composed of fine and medium fir bark, charcoal, and coarse perlite. It improves drainage, increases airflow, and complements Pon by adding organic structure to the mix, especially beneficial for plants that prefer extra root aeration.
